Using the Map

Overview

The map is your primary tool for visualizing fleet locations, tracking movements, and managing geographic data. This guide covers all map features and navigation tools.

Map Interface

Map Controls

Zoom Controls

  • + button: Zoom in
  • − button: Zoom out
  • Mouse wheel: Scroll to zoom
  • Double-click: Zoom in on location

Pan Controls

  • Click and drag: Move map view
  • Arrow keys: Pan in any direction
  • Home button: Return to default view

Map Layers

  • Road: Standard road map
  • Satellite: Aerial imagery
  • Hybrid: Satellite with labels
  • Terrain: Topographic view

Unit Markers

Marker Types

Standard Markers

  • Each unit has a unique marker on the map
  • Marker shows unit icon and direction
  • Color indicates status:
    • Green: Online and moving
    • Blue: Online and stationary
    • Red: Offline
    • Yellow: Idle

Custom Icons

  • Units can have custom icons
  • Configure in unit settings
  • Helps identify vehicle types quickly

Marker Information

Hover Over Marker

  • Shows quick info tooltip:
    • Unit name
    • Current status
    • Speed (if moving)
    • Last update time

Click Marker

  • Opens detailed unit information panel
  • Shows full status and sensor data
  • Access to unit actions

Measurement Tools

Distance Measurement

  1. Click "Measure" tool icon
  2. Click on map to set start point
  3. Click additional points to create path
  4. Double-click to finish
  5. Total distance is displayed

Area Measurement

  1. Select "Area" measurement tool
  2. Click points to create polygon
  3. Double-click to close shape
  4. Area is calculated and displayed

Drawing Tools

Create Geofence

  1. Click "Draw" tool
  2. Choose shape:
    • Circle
    • Rectangle
    • Polygon
    • Line
  3. Draw on map
  4. Save as geofence

Add Map Notes

  1. Click "Add Note" tool
  2. Click location on map
  3. Enter note text
  4. Save note
  5. Notes appear as markers with info icon

Route Display

Viewing Routes

Current Route

  • Shows breadcrumb trail of recent movement
  • Configurable trail length (1-24 hours)
  • Color-coded by speed

Historical Route

  1. Select unit
  2. Choose date and time range
  3. Click "Show Route"
  4. Route appears on map with start/end markers

Route Playback

Playing Back Routes

  1. Load historical route
  2. Click "Play" button
  3. Watch vehicle movement replay
  4. Control playback speed:
    • 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x

Playback Controls

  • ▶️ Play/Pause
  • ⏩ Fast forward
  • ⏪ Rewind
  • ⏹️ Stop and reset
  • 📍 Jump to specific time

Traffic Information

Traffic Layer

Enable Traffic

  1. Click "Layers" button
  2. Enable "Traffic" layer
  3. Roads show traffic conditions:
    • Green: Free flowing
    • Yellow: Moderate traffic
    • Red: Heavy traffic
    • Dark red: Congestion

Live Traffic

  • Updates every 5 minutes
  • Shows current conditions
  • Useful for route planning

Points of Interest (POI)

Built-in POI

Show POI Categories

  1. Click "POI" button
  2. Select categories to display:
    • Fuel stations
    • Parking areas
    • Rest stops
    • Service centers
    • Hospitals
    • Police stations

POI Information

  • Click POI marker for details
  • View address and contact info
  • Get directions

Custom POI

Add Custom POI

  1. Right-click location on map
  2. Select "Add POI"
  3. Enter details:
    • Name
    • Category
    • Description
    • Contact information
  4. Save POI

Manage POI

  • Edit: Right-click POI → Edit
  • Delete: Right-click POI → Delete
  • Import: Upload POI file (CSV, KML)
  • Export: Download POI data

Geofences on Map

Viewing Geofences

Show All Geofences

  1. Click "Geofences" layer button
  2. All geofences appear on map
  3. Different colors for different types

Filter Geofences

  • Click geofence filter
  • Select specific geofences to show
  • Hide others to reduce clutter

Geofence Actions

Edit Geofence

  1. Click geofence boundary
  2. Click "Edit" button
  3. Drag points to reshape
  4. Save changes

Delete Geofence

  1. Click geofence
  2. Click "Delete" button
  3. Confirm deletion

Map Search

Search Locations

Address Search

  1. Click search box on map
  2. Type address
  3. Select from suggestions
  4. Map centers on location

Coordinates Search

  • Enter GPS coordinates (lat, long)
  • Format: 51.5074, -0.1278
  • Map jumps to exact location

POI Search

  • Search for places by name
  • Find nearest gas station, etc.
  • Results shown as markers

Multi-Unit Tracking

Tracking Multiple Units

Select Multiple Units

  1. Hold Ctrl/Cmd
  2. Click multiple units in list
  3. All selected units highlighted on map

Fit to View

  • Click "Fit All" button
  • Map zooms to show all selected units
  • Useful for fleet overview

Group Tracking

  1. Select a unit group
  2. Click "Track Group"
  3. Map shows all units in group
  4. Updates in real-time

Map Settings

Customizing Map View

Default Map Center

  1. Go to Settings → Map
  2. Set default center point
  3. Set default zoom level
  4. This view loads at login

Marker Clustering

  • When zoomed out, nearby markers cluster
  • Shows number in cluster
  • Zoom in to see individual units

Label Settings

  • Show/hide unit labels
  • Configure label content:
    • Unit name
    • Speed
    • Driver name
  • Set label font size

Exporting Map Data

Save Map View

Screenshot

  1. Click "Export" → "Screenshot"
  2. Map area captured as image
  3. Download PNG file

Print Map

  1. Click "Print" button
  2. Select print area
  3. Choose orientation (portrait/landscape)
  4. Print or save as PDF

Mobile Map Features

Mobile Differences

Touch Gestures

  • Pinch to zoom
  • Two-finger pan
  • Tap marker for info
  • Long press for menu

Location Services

  • Shows your current location
  • Blue dot on map
  • Useful for field personnel

Map Keyboard Shortcuts

  • +/-: Zoom in/out
  • Arrow keys: Pan map
  • Home: Reset to default view
  • M: Toggle map/satellite
  • T: Toggle traffic layer
  • G: Toggle geofences
  • F: Fit all units to view
  • Ctrl + F: Search location

Troubleshooting

Map not loading?

  • Check internet connection
  • Clear browser cache
  • Disable ad blockers
  • Try different browser

Markers not appearing?

  • Check filter settings
  • Verify units are online
  • Zoom in (clustering may hide them)
  • Refresh page

Slow map performance?

  • Hide unused geofences
  • Reduce number of visible units
  • Use clustering for many units
  • Close other browser tabs

Efficient Navigation

  • Use search for quick location finding
  • Save frequently used views
  • Use keyboard shortcuts
  • Organize geofences in layers

Visual Clarity

  • Don't overcrowd map with geofences
  • Use consistent color coding
  • Enable clustering for large fleets
  • Adjust marker sizes for readability
